    A terrible insurance broker: the story: I had a letter from Swinton telling me not to worry, as they were going to change my policy for a matched “classic” policy.
    They induced me to sign up to this new policy, but I discovered that it was sheer rubbish. They then phoned me to try and get me to take out a more expensive policy!! Swinton is a Swindler – and nothing else.
    My advice, based on a truly bad experience with Swinton: Run as fast as you can, before they catch you too!

    Do not insure with this company. The firm they use to deal with claims is utterly useless. I was involved in a minor accident which was not my fault. It took over two months to get my car fixed. Swinton wanted a repairer which was a long way from my home to do the job and they wouldn’t agree to pick the car up and exchange for a courtesy car where I work. I took numerous phone calls to eventually sort it out. Every time I spoke to a different person who didn’t seem to know anything about my case. I had many promises to ring be back but this never happened. I made an official complaint which eventually resulted in a rather lukewarm letter of apology but no explanation of why it had taken so long to deal with my case.

    Appalling customer service in Sunderland branch. I made a formal complaint to Swintons’ national complaints team who dealt with it in a very prompt and professional manner however feedback was no action would be taken by manager of branch.

    The only good thing I can say is that the call centre staff are good, but they limited to what they can do. Other than that poor product offering, I found better and cheaper car insurance elsewhere. The customer is not right and don’t expect anything outside the strict limits of what the computer says.

    Be warned that should you pay a premium upfront and then wish to change insurer, Swinton’s will take 14 days to return your hard earned cash back to you. Reason for this they tell you is blamed on “Clawback”.
    Be careful about cheap premiums being offered by Swinton Insurance.

    Swinton Motor Insurance Important Information – Relevant Charges: Cancellation charge £50. Suddenly became £145. My friend, a disabled pensioner, has tried to cancel a car insurance policy after selling her car. Now she has no car at all, but they want £145 cancellation fee. Would you believe that! The policy would run out in October, so the cancellation fee is a lot more than the money she owes on DD. I asked the person at Swinton Northallerton to hear a recorded call they have of when she signed up, but that would cost another £25. So beware. Ombudsman tomorrow, and Watchdog, I think.

    Still waiting after 3 months to receive the money for my written off car! Being given the run around by the sub contractor AI claims. My friends can’t believe how bad the service has been. Neither can I !!
