Don’t believe the hype or take any notice of “Which” ratings.

As a former employee of respected UK insurers and Lloyds brokers I submitted a straightforward claim for vehicle damage caused by reckless driving to LV who insured the offending vehicle under a motor trade policy. I expected to be paid quickly bearing in mind the weight of evidence.

Ten months later having been forced to take the claim to Court and face a barrister I won my case plus costs and interest and guess what? LV have still not paid. This insurer tried hard to avoid the claim due to the driver not being identified and when police finally traced him changed tactics and spent thousands employing solicitors and a barrister to fight me.
Stay well clear! Spivs hiding behind a cloak of respectability and tradition.

I am nearly 62 years old and have been licensed to drive cars and motorbikes since I was 18. Apart from the occasional speeding fine and one accident (a car drove into the back of me), I have never been in trouble with the police or had any problems with insurance in 44 years of driving.

This came to an end in January 2018.

On the way home on the M3 one night I was stopped by a police car and, sitting in the back, the officer told me I was driving without insurance.

I was stunned. I buy my insurance normally every year and I remembered purchasing a policy from LV. I checked my emails and, sure enough, there was an email from LV confirming the policy starting at the correct date.

The policeman was very kind and said there had obviously been an administrative error somewhere and, because he couldn’t check the details with LV at that time, issued me with a HO/RT 1 form requesting me to present my documents at the local police station. He also let me drive my car home.

The following day I called Liverpool and Victoria.

After the usual delays, I was put through to a lady called Mandy who told me my policy had been cancelled for non-payment. Why? I asked, I told her that the first payment had gone through correctly when the policy started and she said, yes, but the second one didn’t.

I asked her why I hadn’t been told about the problem and it turned out the address on the policy was slightly wrong. (36 instead of 33) She said this meant the bank didn’t recognise the address as being connected to my card and that their warning letters went to the wrong address.

I was stunned; the policy was bought online through Compare the Market and the policy documents were all sent by email. When I asked why they didn’t use email to warn me of the problem, she said it was not how they did things. (Their marketing department didn’t have the same problem – I had a mass of marketing material sent to me by email.)

I have now received confirmation that I am being fined £300 and will receive six points on my licence.

LV have refused to issue an indemnity document, saying that I have should have checked the address in the letter that accompanied the policy document.

The resultant effect of this shambles will cost me thousands of pounds in additional premium and it seems there’s nothing I can do about it.

    A nightmare all round.

We have nothing but praise with our dealings with Lv. Two claims , first one was a blocked drain . The staff were courteous friendly and efficient. The episode was dealt with within four hours.
The second one was a stolen bag on holiday, nationwide holiday insurance were rubbish but told us to use home insurance. we are in our seventies and found the whole situation very stressful. Lv were brilliant, they really cared and and took away a lot of stress. I didn’t always get the same operator but they always knew what they were talking about, gave us great service and outcome.. Downside obviously this years premium has gone up. I could not praise them highly enough

Insured my property through LV Policy states I have to pay first £1000 of ANY claim for subsidence. When I tried to claim they said only under house covered not part of our drive. Why is it they dont tell you this when applying for PROPERTY cover or tell you this is not property cover but only House cover?

Having an appalling time with LV. Had a minor damage only collision on a Supermarket Car Park. Not only did they fail to keep to their own timescales on several occasions, for which they apologised, and offer a nominal amount of compensation to make up for a few hours of unnecessary phone calls, but then they moved me on to their Engineering department, and have refused most of the Claim.
They are saying that damage was not down to the collision, when it was, and they are also telling the garage that their estimates are too much.
Then they tell me to make further claims, knowing that instead of one ‘voluntary excess’ being invoked, there would be two or three, meaning that they wouldn’t have to pay me for the repairs. I am now at the Financial Ombudsman, and disgusted with LV.

Absolute rubbish. Rude customer service people, abusive budget department people, useless complaints people. Every month I pay on time, every month they lose my premium, every month i complain, every month they find premiums they have lost, every month tell me it will not happen again, every month happens again. Now I have default letters and a 7 day cancel letter. Told not a cancel letter, just sent for force me to pay up. Then told found my missing payments and allocated to my account after I confirmed I had begun legal action, but told it is my fault as I dont pay direct debit. Rubbish!

It is the most idiotic insurance company I have had deal with in my 16 years of motorbike riding history so far,and I genuinley doubt that is someone eles worse than them out there. My case: last year a lady was reversing just after the roundabout and unavoidably I went in her car with my motorbike, crashing my motorbike and my arm. After staying whole night in hospital and after a surgery, the day after as the law requires, I called to report that I was involved in this road collision and I told them that the collision was still under investigation but then I was penalised by my insurance company.

Liverpool Victoria have since increased the payout so I can now get my roof repaired

  10. Graham Takats

I made a claim after the storms ripped tiles off of the roof
It snapped a tree in half in the garden the wind was so strong.
After submitting the claim, I got a bill for £58
Increase in premium and threatened if I did not pay it my policy would be cancelled .
After submitting photos not much happened
Then an assessor came out and another month went by
I phoned and they said the report had to be converted into a different format to get on the computer.
Then they said the roof was in poor condition previous to the storm
And would contribute to the cost of tiles
£680 which will barely pay for a scaffold so I cannot find anyone to do the work for that.

I made a claim to this company for accidental damage on home contents. The assessor came out on 16th June 2014, it is now 18th July. I am no further forward. I have rang three times to chase it, only to be promised a return phone call with some explanation. Guess what? No return phonecalls. I’m very disappointed to say the least. Two members of my family have car insurance with this company, I really hope they never have to claim! Think we will be going elsewhere very soon.

Don’t ever use this company! I was diagnosed with Grade 3 invasive breast caner 5 years ago when I was 30. Five years on they are still refusing to pay out. They have been through my really old medical records and are trying to tell me I have not disclosed things which I have never been diagnosed with. For example, my records show that I had a 24 hour heart monitor on and I was told by my doctor that there was nothing wrong and I have not been treated for anything because of this test but LV reckon I have a heart condition because of this and are refusing to pay out.

Be very aware of this insurance company. You may not be insured.
If you are a Company Director who for any reason has a CCJ against them, or have been a Director of a liquidated Company and you are not asked the question in the proposal, they will throw out your claim. Their sole aim is not to pay your claim.
I was a Non executive Director of a very substantial laundry in the Cotswolds, with 5 shop outlets and the laundry as the main processing plant. We had been operating very successfully for 16 years. We had been insured with another insurance company for 14 years before moving to LV. We had a dryer fire, which was proven to have nothing to do with arsen. After 5 weeks of prevarication by LV staff, we had to close a 16 year old successfull business putting 18 people out of work. Now, 5 months on, we are still with out a decision from LV.

Warning – don’t touch LV with a barge pole! Do you know what LV stands for? Lousy Value or Low Value or Least Value…Take my advice and at all cost steer clear of LV. Their customer support is appalling – they do not call when they say/promise they will thus requiring you to initiate contact every time. They are extremely slow to respond to a claim and weasel out of a claim as their last action. Having spent over half a year investigating our claim they failed to indicate that the likely outcome would be refusal of the claim. They initiated repair of our sunken driveway initially but the drive sunk again – the issue was with a leaking water mains to the house, which the water supplier repaired without charge. LV’s sub-contractors driveway repair did not last more than a few months and they refused to re-repair the drive when it sank again. After paying the access for the 1st repair we had to resort to arranging a repair ourselves which cost a fraction of what it cost LV to do it with their sub-contractors. It has also lasted a lot longer, to date, than LV’s repair. I believe that LV need to cap costs on claims to balance their overspend on TV adverts…

My daughter had her purse stolen, phoned LV on Monday morning and within an hour the claim was made, agreed and a cheque issued. Now that is how service works. Well done LV.

We have 3 car policies and also have home insurance with LV= This will not be for much longer. I have spent a week trying to add another car and after about 5 calls – the last one lasting 38 minutes when I was passed from pillar to post – I am no further forwards. This company is systematically broken. I have never made a claim and have been a loyal paying customer. LV= seems to be a Frankenstein’s monster of loosely coupled dead parts. I would have no confidence should I need to make a claim so time to go…

We had a claim recently following an aggravated robbery at our home. They desperately tried to prove that we were running a business (we were not) – they tried every weasel manoeuvre you can imagine, even employing a firm of “Investigators” – and all over a laptop that was stolen – the cost of the investigation must have been huge but once they started committing large resources to avoiding payment rather than providing the service we had paid for, it became like something out of a Kafka story! Eventually, after six months of fighting, they settled in full with compensation for the treatment we had received but this is too little and far too late. Rude, hectoring and totally uncaring people. Utterly disgraceful operation who do not deserve to have a license or be associated with the wonderful Friendly Society movement.

I have car insurance with LV and needed to change my vehicle although I kept the same registration number. Nearly two weeks after the change, the Motor Insurance Database (checked by the police before they pull you over) still shows my old details so I now run around in constant worry that the police will stop me. More than one ‘adviser’ at LV tells me DVLA updates the MID which is not correct and the whole company seems incapable of changing the details on the database. Yes, I have documents for the new car which are fine. The police, however, will see my BMW is supposed to be a Golf and pull me over. Frankly I could do without the hassle but no-one at LV knows what to do about it.

I would like to express my dissatisfaction with Liverpool Victoria. They have taken £500 out of my account to renew an insurance policy that I have not authorised. Not only is that frustrating, however, it might take them up to 10 days to return the money. The lady on the phone was very unhelpful and said there was nothing she could do to speed this up. I will NOT be using this company ever again
