    Appalling service!
Been with M and S for several years. Received email from M & S advising me Insurance was cancelled previous day, as policy had not been renewed! I had received nothing from insurer since previous years renewal. I was now driving an uninsured car. Rang insurer who advised me that they had sent me an email inviting renewal several weeks ago ( nothing my system! ). And they stated that this email had “ been opened”. I checked with email provider who were totally perplexed. They offered to renew policy, but requested a significant increase in the renewal premium.Needless to say I made a formal complaint, which was of course swept away for the original reasons. This took 14 days!
Needless to say I renewed my insurance with another provider and have since cancelled my Household policy and transferred it to another provider.

    HOME INSURANCE

I have a policy with m&s for the last one and half years. My toilet pipe burst and have water damage in my kitchen sealing. This was happened on January 26th 2018. I reported this to m&s on the next hour. Today is 20/03/2018, roughly 2 months time. Nothing happened yet. I am still chasing my claim.

I NEVER RECOMMEND m&s home insurance to any one as per my experience. WASTE OF MONEY AND RUBBISH CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I took out M&S car insurance, and three months later, moved house. It cost me £25 to change my address. I moved again six months later and incurred another £25 to change the address again! A Month before the renewal, I sold the car and when I phoned to tell them, they said there would be a £50 charge to cancel the insurance. If I had just told them I didn’t want to renew, there would have been no charge!

I said not to cancel it but to just cancel the renewal and she said I couldn’t do that.

I was then told it was all laid out in the terms and conditions.

I took out the insurance because it seem a good deal, but a year, and £100 further on, it was a bad decision.

Interestingly, my Wife’s car is insured with another company, and there have been no charges for change of address.

£50 rip off charge to cancel my insurance on a car I have just sold! I’m getting another in a few weeks but M&S can forget my business.

I have had M&S Home Contents Insurance for a few years now, their Premier level policy. I pay annually in advance and have only had one claim for a stolen bike and paid an increased premium last year as a result which is fair enough.

A couple of days ago I received an email from the M&S Home Insurance Help Team which was curt to the point of rudeness. It said your insurance expires on 18th January and we will not be renewing your policy. Oh and don’t forget to put some cover in place!

I responded by saying that as an existing customer surely I deserved an explanation as to why they would not renew my policy. The answer came back that I had one item which they deemed was now worth over their single item limit. This was without even asking whether I still owned the item.

So don’t expect any loyalty as an existing customer or even as a M&S shareholder which I am! Their unwillingness to check the facts before making a decision, their tone and customer service I found terrible and certainly not what you would expect of M&S. I have taken my business elsewhere.

I phoned them up this morning to cancel my insurance on my Suzuki Vitara.Car is now sold.My husband and I are just going to have one car now.My insurance expires in December.I was informed by a helpful man that the amount to come back was about £88.I was then told that they would be charging me £50 to cancel the insurance.Absolute rip off. When I mentioned this to my husband he stated that when his insurance expires in September on his Honda Civic,he will definately be leaving and going elsewhere for his car insurance.Absolutely outrageous.

I had a problem a couple of months ago when I found out that I didn’t have car insurance for two weeks as M&S cancelled the policy for a missed payment even though I pay by direct debit. My bank missed a payment as I was overdrawn and M&S claim to have written to me to ask for payment but I didn’t receive the letter. The first I heard of it was when they wrote to me to tell me that the policy was cancelled. I got this letter and called in to the customer service team to make a payment and was told that they had actually cancelled my policy two weeks previously so I had been driving around without insurance! They reactivated as soon as I made a payment but what if there had been an accident? I think a firm like this should give you more time and make more of an effort to get hold of you before canceling. To make matters worse, I tried to stop the policy this month but found that it had automatically renewed and I’d have to pay the rest of the year to get out of it! I’ve looked over the original policy docs and I can’t work out how they can do this….They were ok when I had a minor claim a couple of years ago but clearly have issues with paperwork.

I found M&S easy and straightforward compared to other insurance sites. I was looking for cheap contents insurance for my new flat and spent a lot of time researching companies until I decided to take out contents insurance with them last month based partly on price and partly as my family recommended that I use a reliable brand – it also helped that I found their policy information easy to understand.
