    Hiscox waited until the friday before Christmas to write and tell me they were not renewing my home insurance from 30th December. With two weekends, the Christmas bank holiday and half day Christmas Eve my options for finding replacement cover before the policy expired are extremely limited. Very poor treatment of a loyal customer.

    Ok they are not the cheapest but you certainly get what you pay for. I hold house/content and travel with for years and have made 2 claims with them . Absolutely brilliant was not made to feel like i was trying to fiddle as some companies have done and claims settled super fast and decisions made equally quickly to give me go ahead to do sort things out . I have not come across international call centres with this outfit which is a blessing in itself

    A responsive, sympathetic company that made an awful experience a little more bearable. We informed Hiscox that we had been burgled and they sent an assessor the day after. Hiscox paid almost immediately. Also, when we discovered that we missed items out of our original claim, they paid for these with no problems or arguments. I did not need to fill a single form in and did not need to debate anything with them. You always think that claiming on an insurance policy will be painful, but not with Hiscox – they offered a first class service that is worth the extra money that we pay on premiums.

    Not necessarily the cheapest, but definitely worth it in my view. Their ‘high value’ policy doesn’t require you to list each and every last item and is therefore straightforward to set up and maintain. And when, unfortunately, we had to make a claim following a burglary they immediately secured the property, came round and processed the claim without any awkward questions. Even though in some areas of our claim they could have ‘technically’ disputed things they apparently went with the spirit of the contract rather than the letter and a few days later we received payment. Given that the burglary happened whilst my wife was in hospital giving birth to our twins, the straightforward and extremely fair approach was very welcome.

    I’ve had difficulty insuring my property because of a small stream that runs alongside my house. In periods of high rain, the stream becomes a wide lake (about 40m across) but it has never flooded. When I originally took out cover, Hiscox took details online then called to discuss the stream. I explained carefully, they listened and asked sensible questions. They put me on risk for no additional premium. When my locality suffered severe floods I was phoned by them to ask if my property had been affected and whether I needed help. It hadn’t, and I didn’t, but I felt reassured by the proactive call. The premium may be a little more than the cheapest around, but it’s worth it for peace of mind. This is a buildings insurance company with a big difference!
