Wanted to leave a review for Halifax Emergency Insurance (it’s RSA but we got it through Halifax) because they have been fantastic. First we had a leak in the roof where tiles had moved from high winds. You can call any time and they’ll get a suitable person to you ASAP. Great communication and friendly manner on the phone. We just woke up to the boiler leaking, same pleasant telephone exchange, plumber out that day. Had to come back to fix it as he needed a part but the insurance company were in constant communication with us to let us know what was going on. Only £5 a month, no excess. If you cant afford any other insurance, I’d recommend you at least get this!

Terrible. 20 years mortgage and over £740 per year insurance (which includes a 30%) NCB discount which would make it over £900 a year which includes “product plus’ cover lol what a joke. My policy states this means part of a uniform, colour scheme, pattern or selection will be replaced if can’t be matched. Along with various other on going issues the guy on the phone asked why I was referring to to product plus when my policy should merely state the phrase product plus with no definition he might has well have said” you don’t know what it is so stop using it” be warned these guys are not going to be the same as when they sold you an over inflated policy. Back street rip off merchants offer pretty much the same cover when it comes down to it for a 10th of the price

Sky high charges for the elderly (but they don’t know)

Do not use the Halifax Home Insurance, they have stolen by stealth over £3000 over the last 10 years from my 95 year old mother with huge insurance premiums for a 2 bedroom cottage, this year £703, I got a new quote from the Hx for the same house and it was £188 for the same policy.
The Hx seem to think that is fair game, financially abusing 90 year old customers.. Make no mistake loyalty of 30 years counts for nothing, new customers are the sole purpose of their insurance business. Elderly people finance the new lower price deals.
After an investigation they rang me today and thought it was fair, and that all people are given options and should search the net for better quotes, quite ridiculous at 95. This policy is now cancelled and exactly the same insurance with More Than for £160.
Thanks very much Halifax for stealing that amount of money from my mother, a customer at the HX Building society for 40 years, gravely mistaken loyalty.
The excess payments every year would have paid her monthly electricity bills. WELL DONE HALIFAX, much appreciated.

They gave me a different phone back not my original one with out telling me as the imei number does not match up to my original phone box so I’m wondering if they just switch phones around after replacing the screens and people then report new faults disgusted

Pointless and a waste of money.

I have paid £10 a month for the last 3 years for Halifax’s Insurance which covers Breakdown, Home, Travel.

I came home from a walk with my dog, to find that my door lock mechanism failed and I couldn’t lock the door.

Called Halifax and after 45 mins of being passed around on the phone, their advisor spent a good 20 minutes trying to tell me that this was not covered under the insurance policy even though it clearly states that failed locks are covered. Eventually he told me that if they sent someone out they would board up the door for me until I could pay for a locksmith myself.

What a waste of time that was. I am going to cancel Halifax Insurance and take it out with someone else, making sure I first ask about what level of cover is provided.

Whole system is a waste of time. Have read other reviews which say you get better service if you just say you lost your phone.

Sent my water damaged phone off 3 weeks ago, they sent it back with a new screen and covers etc and I was really please until I realised that they hadn’t actually repaired the fault, it stopped working the first day I started to use it again.

I phoned them on a borrowed phone and spoke to someone who said they would send a pre paid envelope to post it back to them as I had already paid for recorded delivery.

A week went by and nothing, I had no phone to contact them and they don’t have email contact details so I logged a complaint saying the only way to contact me was via email. So I get an email saying they have tried to call me and have been unsuccessful! Didn’t even read my complaint properly.

Its now three weeks and I have no phone and no closer to getting any joy out of them. They wont even refund me the £30 excess as a good will gesture!

i took this insurance as halifax staff told me it was fast and easy to make claims but as per today( 1 week since i put the claim) it has been hell. i was told i only needed a receipt from the person i bought the phone as proof of ownership, well, that information was false . then they kept asking me for more stuff and as i dont have a contract with a network they wouldnt help. so i was told i was get my claim sorted in 1 working day and today its been 5 days , tomorrow its saturday and of course this people dont work on weekends so it will be tuesday by the time i get sorted

I had buildings and contents insurance with these fools for 4 years and never made a claim until someone broke into my shed and stole a £650 bike, a £65 strimmer and an £85 tool kit. Halifax disallowed the bike as they said mountain bikes are not covered (?!), disallowed the tool kit as it was mostly a car socket set(?!) but offered to reimburse the strimmer. First, however, they deducted the £50 excess then offered me £15. I wonder what would happen if your house is broke into? Oh, sorry sir, flat screen TV’s are not covered; or games consoles or any jewellery that contains gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, etc, etc, etc. Waste of money.

I took out buildings and contents insurance from the Halifax recently and the whole process has been a complete shambles. After making slight changes to my policy after the initial document you sent me was incorrect I have received literally 10 or 12 letters demanding payment, I have spoke to at least 3 call centre staff who have all told me the matter has been settled, last week they sent me a letter saying my policy was cancelled, I spoke to a supervisor Naseem who assured me he would send me a letter confirming my policy was fuilly paid and in force and would credit £40 to my account. Needless to say none of this has happened. I can’t understand how a company of their size can act in this shambolic manner. I’m disgusted by the way I have been treated, the constant failure on their part to resolve the issues they have created, the constant failed promises you haver made to me and the concern they have put me through.

I have found Halifax Insurance to be quite fair in the prices. They were the only insurer which would insure us when we bought the house as it had suffered from a bit of settlement when it was built. So found them very good.

Not impressed. My 82 year old mother had her broken into during the day. The scum bags took the door off its hinges. We are told it will take up to 3 weeks to replace. It’s currently boarded up. She is petrified. Shame on you insurance company.

I had my phone stolen on a Thursday. I cancelled the contract and reported it as stolen as required.
I called the Halifax insurance team on Friday who emailed me a form to fill in. I sent it back that day and had a new phone delivered by the following Tuesday.
It was a lot easier process than I thought it would be.
    Maybe I just got lucky…

Absolutely dreadful service from start to finish. I am on my 3rd phone in the space of 3 weeks from the. I lost a perfectly good White Samsung S3 which worked perfectly. First phone they sent was a reconditioned blue Samsung which wouldn’t charge, the second was another reconditioned blue Samsung phone that continually rebooted itself. I received today another reconditioned Samsung in grey, which was grubby and covered in fingerprints with a sticky substance. Finally finished cleaning it, but wait with baited breath to see if this phone actually works. Staff were totally unhelpful – asked for numerous call backs, but I had to do all the phoning (which incidentally was a 0845 number which was costing a fortune on my house phone). Never in my life have I experienced such a shoddy service and bad customer service. Have sent in a letter of complaint – but doubt if I will hear anything back. Seriously looking at alternative banks now as Halifax are certainly nothing to shout about.

Dreadful service. Claim documentation very unclear. I sent the mobile off to the repairers as instructed, with the paperwork as instructed. The phone sat there for a week without being touched……reason?….the claim form is supposed to be sent to a different address. this is not stated in the online claim form and unfortunately the battery to my psychic radar had gone flat due to overuse that day!!!!!!!!! When I complained I was treated rudely and patronised. Very very very poor service. ps My phone was damaged by a criminal when I was taking photos of an RTA. He thought that by destroying my phone he would get away with it but he didn’t count on a good old piece off paper and a pen now did he. Must be an age thing eh….

My Galaxy S5 dropped out of my pocket whilst slipping down the stairs hitting a radiator and front door. it had a cracked camera and the screen would turn on and off all the time to the point where I couldn’t use it. I started the claim online and it could not have been easier. My phone was sent last Friday afternoon and I received it Wednesday evening. They have fully repaired and upgraded my phone for me! I could not be happier. The service was quick and painless. I had regular updates on my account about my phones whereabouts and repair status. No rubbish phone calls. I was dreading sending my phone away after reading other reviews about them not fixing phones and it costing a fortune. But I’ve had nothing but excellent service and satisfaction! thank you Halifax! I feel like I’ve got a brand new phone!

My phone has been stolen and I called straight away the Halifax Mobile Insurance team.

They asked for crime reference number, proof of purchase, proof of barring, proof of usage and proof of burglary. The last one was the hardest as I got to make repetitive requests to the Leisure Centre where the crime has happened, but finally I managed to send them all the requested documents.

After almost 3 weeks, Lifestyle Insurance (Halifax mobile insurer) sent me a brand new iPhone, exactly as my previous one.

I made several calls, sometimes I was annoyed and nervous but every time they have been polite and patient.

I am happy with their services.

I accidentally dropped my iPhone 4 into the sink while washing, the iphone was completely submerged. I tried drying out the phone but all I could get on the screen was a temp warning icon.

I phoned Halifax on the Thursday (had to pay £50 excess), had a letter Friday accepting the claim & telling me to post it to Lifestyle who deal with Halifax insurance claims, sent off my phone special delivery on Saturday . Tracked the phone was signed for on Monday by Lifestyle. Phone was fully repaired and dispatched on Thursday & I received it back on Friday morning working perfectly!

Overall quite a good service, though I think they should send you a postage paid jiffy bag to send phone to them (as it cost me £7) and they should phone/ text/email to let you know phone has been dispatched.

I lost my phone while out walking the dogs so called my network provider and then Halifax.
Was told I need a police report (for a lost phone so no crime had been commited so a waste of police time and resources) and that a claim form would be sent out to my home address (which arrived the 2 days later). While going through the claim form I noticed that they wanted a proof of purchase which I had not been informed I would need when registering the phone in the first place or when I called up to make my claim.I called them up on the 0845 number and was put on hold for 20 minutes after going through the issue with a customer service operator I was told a manager would call me back in 24hours which didn’t happen so again I had to call 0845 number again to be put on hold again for a further 25 minutes only to be told that all of the managers were in a meeting and I would be called within the next 4 hours. I managed to get an email from my network provider stating that I had owned the device I had lost and sent that through via email and sent the claim form off on the day it came but they are claiming to have not got my claim form so they have now sent me a new claim form and I still haven’t had a call from a manager and claim is still ongoing…To describe this in one word – shocking….

Car Insurance rip off Halifax like so many are not insurance companies merely resellers for BISL (Meerkat people) so just cream money for selling to us . Ok in principle this is not a problem until you need to claim or change something. I needed to change the registration of my car on my policy just got charged £25 for the privilege and when questioned why was told to cover cost to themselves . This is rubbish there is no cost at all its the same as the banks charging us £25 for not paying a direct debit , pure profiteering and morally wrong . Any company who does this deserves to be advertised as such so we the public can vote with our feet. I do not have an issue with a modest charge in keeping with the true cost but 25 quid represents 4 hours minimum wage and the girl who tapped in my details is no doubt payed minimum wage and it did not take her 4 hours

Took out car insurance online with halifax. Paid premium via debit card and all went through. Decided not to let them have my card details. Sold car three months later and phoned to get rebate of premiums. Had to pay £50 admin charge. Awaited for rebate, did not appear on bank statement. Phoned but they said they had paid it into my account ending 9999. I do not have account ending in that number. Numerous telephone calls later (all at cost due to 0844) they concluded that it was due to the fact that I did not let them have my card details after end of transaction. It seems I am unique in this regard. Promised to send by cheque. Still awaiting cheque. Don’t deal with these people, they may be reasonable on quote price but if you require anything outside of their telemarketing remit then your better off dealing with teletubbies. Thank God I am not actioning anything more serious it would be a nightmare. Will be referring my complaint to financial ombudsman along with all relevant notes.

I dropped my phone down the toilet, phoned the halifax insurance and logged the claim, I knew there was going to be a £30 charge due to the phone been so new.
They sent out the claim form which came the next day along with details of where to post it too. I posted the phone off on the Saturday.

The phone was returned to me on the Wednesday, unfortunately no one was in to sign for it, so I picked it up from the depot on the Thursday morning. Phone works fine, brilliant service.

Only issue was the screen protector had not been put back on correctly and was hanging over the edge. ha ha.

I took out the Halifax Bank of Scotland Ultimate Reward Account which offers numerous ‘perks’ at a fee of £15 a month, one of these being mobile phone insurance. I, however, had a dreadful experience when carrying out a claim for my phone when I lost it.

Firstly, the process took a month from when I lost my phone to getting a replacement, which meant I paid a month of my contract for a phone I never had. I had to obtain a police report within 24 hours of the incident, even though I simply lost my phone. I feel this was unnecessary as other insurance companies only require a police report in the event of a crime – a theft.

Having to wait for a paper claim form being sent to my address then filling it out and having to send it away is a process that I find quite tedious and archaic in this day and age where electronic forms can be filled out and processed in a matter of hours.

A hefty excess of £100 is required for an iphone which is the highest excess I have seen from any phone insurance policy. The number to call if I had any queries was an 0845 number therefore adding to the overall cost of the process through my numerous calls to this number.

A proof of purchase was required for my phone regardless of the fact I had a “certificate of insurance” for said phone, I cannot fathom the reason for such a certificate if it does not in fact certify that my phone was insured. A proof if purchase is obtained from a network provider and takes 7-10 working days to arrive!

Finally, I sent away a proof of purchase and description of the case I had on my phone at the time as was instructed to me by one of the advisers. My phone was sent out and no word has been given about the case I claimed for which means I am going to need to call the costly helpline once more to enquire about this issue.

I hope I have provided ample reasons for my unsatisfactory rating on my experience and I would urge others to steer clear of this type of insurance. I would never like to go through this hassle again for an honest mistake in losing my phone. It’s something that is easy done and the claim procedure is so strict it is difficult to stay within the expected parameters to make a claim successful.

I have mixed feelings about Halifax’s house insurance.

On the plus side when I made a complaint, for a broken window, they were efficient, courteous and had the window replaced quickly with the only the excess to pay.

But the negative came after. Naturally the premiums increased the following the year as I lost the no-claims bonus, which is irritating (the broken window was criminal damage, so I could hardly have avoided it) but at least expected. But it then increased every year, year-in, year-out, even though the no-claims bonus was restored. I admit I did not check it too closely, and only noticed when it had increased to something like £400/year more than it was originally. When I alerted the Halifax they initially said it was because ‘people accumulate more stuff’, which is absurd, and when I mentioned that the average house insurance policy (according to ONS) had risen by a much smaller amount they admitted it ‘was a little hard to explain’ and agreed to reduce it by about £200. I realise loyal customers get badly treated but it has made me think twice about using them again.

I’ve been with Halifax for years and been very loyal , mortgage, car insurance, home and building insurance…..all smooth and very good service. However recently I have changed car insurance as found same deal £160 cheaper…for those savings I have changed provider. This winter with the vast amount of snow and high winds have had an issue with the conservatory……my builder suggested an insurance claim for weather damage but Halifax rejected claim stating it is wear and tear. Having been a loyal customer this recent response has caused me now to reconsider my mortgage options and insurance to pay for a new conservatory…

We live in Manchester and have all of our insurance with Halifax – I’m writing this about my household insurance (contents & building). Halifax were great until we claimed on a break-in over the New Year. They were horrible – the claims experience was so bad it has given me sleepless nights and I’ve had to take time off as sick days. I was made to feel like I was making things up. I’ve been a customer for 20 years – after this I would say please don’t use Halifax!
