Latest insurance review by MICHAEL BISHOP: Hiscox waited until the friday before Christmas to write and tell me they were not renewing my home insurance from 30th December. With two weekends, the Christmas bank holiday and half day Christmas Eve my options for finding replacement cover before the policy expired are extremely limited. Very poor treatment of a loyal customer....

Latest insurance review by Nicole: Do not go with Pet Plan to insure your new pets, they are shockingly slow, bad service, do not keep you in the loop and you have to chase them 5 times in just over a month, with a shocking outcome! After such bad service, with awful excuses of not covering me, they then decided after two reassessments there was a two day break from the breeders cover to me renewing the policy. Even though the breeder bought the policy on the 18th of the month and I called them to renew it on the 17th of the following month. At the same time I also told them that the kitten was showing some signs of illness, which they had asked me to contact my vets to fax over the symptoms, which I did, but they still denied my claim. THEY ARE BAD! UNHELPFUL and you need a lot of time to chase them, week after week, whilst they send the claims for reassessment more than the once because they are doing such an awful job of managing the upkeep of their files....

Latest insurance review by Mary Collins: We have travel insurance, car insurance and household insurance all with Saga. I have always found them exceedingly helpful on the telephone and recently when a claim was made on the travel insurance it was handled direct by the medical staff from the cruise ship, with absolute efficiency. We changed the car recently and again the efficiency of person we spoke to was brillent. OK SAGA are not the cheapest, but their service is wonderful...

RAC Insurance

Latest insurance review by Mr Bailey: My brother in law passed away, RAC Insurance automatically renewed his insurance policy, were unable to make collect DD payments but still accrued a debt which they sold to another company. On informing RAC, customer services, giving them correct answers to their data protection questions, RAC were then rude and unhelpful. They refused to answer any questions about their procedures and give any contact details. The debt collection agency, CARS, were very helpful, polite and resolved the matter very quickly. Automatic policy renewal should be illegal. It is illegal to sell on a debt belong to a deceased person. I suspect that this is the reason RAC were unhelpful and consequently rude and insensitive....

Latest insurance review by Sam P: Avoid, had my home insurance with Barclays underwritten by Aviva, just avoid both, they do absolutely everything evade the policy. I had a need to use my legal cover on the home insurance but it was deemed not proportional, so they take my money for what? Zero service. Barclays who had my insurance just fobbed it off to Aviva, I would never get Barclays again and also avoid Aviva. Unhelpful people who just look for small print to escape funding. Both companies do not care at all about the human element and just take your money for rubbish service. This was a residential home insurance, but I also have a business account with them, appalled at how I was treated. Barclays simply do not care. Such a rip off. Better to have no cover as thats what it represents and save that cash. Missold to me, as I had no idea it was fobbed off to Aviva, I thought I was dealing with Barclays only. Aviva staff were pretty slow and rude to me. Waste of money and breach of trust being covered by either of th...

Prudential Insurance

Latest insurance review by m harmston: When we first contacted the company after a burst pipe they were very helpful and told us to go ahead with repairs and redecorating and to submit our claim including the cost for the plumbing and electrics. The cost came to over £1000 and after a couple of weeks without any reply from the company we again contacted them and they said because the cost had gone over £1000 they were sending out a representative to check out our claim. We said that has we had been told to go ahead with our repairs there would not be a lot to see. Fortunately we had not taken all water damaged goods to the tip so at least they would be able to assess them. The assessor came and to be fair was very helpful, she took photos of the damaged goods, checked the room that had been redecorated and we were then paid out in full.Because of the delays this took a lot longer than it should have done and it made you feel has though they did not believe our claim even though we kept costs down by doing a lot of the work ours...

Latest insurance review by Malachi: I decided to switch insurers after having my premiums go up steadily for the last three years. I got various online quotes and then called Adelaide as I'm an HGV driver and they specialise in this type of insurance. They offered to beat the online quotes by £25, and didn't have a problem with a past claim I made. My only gripe is that I needed documents by post so I could keep in my cab and asked for this a couple of times but only got an email copy of them. I'm a bit annoyed that I've had to keep calling about this, which worries me a bit about what would happen if something went wrong with a claim....

Latest insurance review by Jay: Wanted to leave a review for Halifax Emergency Insurance (it's RSA but we got it through Halifax) because they have been fantastic. First we had a leak in the roof where tiles had moved from high winds. You can call any time and they'll get a suitable person to you ASAP. Great communication and friendly manner on the phone. We just woke up to the boiler leaking, same pleasant telephone exchange, plumber out that day. Had to come back to fix it as he needed a part but the insurance company were in constant communication with us to let us know what was going on. Only £5 a month, no excess. If you cant afford any other insurance, I'd recommend you at least get this!...

Geek Squad

Latest insurance review by Deborah O'Brien: DO NOT BUY GEEK SQUAD MOBLIE INSURANCE AS ITS A WASTE OF MONEY. Broken screen so given into carphone warehouse on Tuesday, received a refurbished phone on Wednesday which stopped working by Thursday so back to the carphone warehouse who advised another phone would be delivered Friday. Well after checking the phone is still on it’s way I was told it won’t be delivered until next Tuesday due to Easter my answer to this was, if the phone delivered on Wednesday wasn’t faulty I would not be waiting for another one until next Tuesday. At £14.99 a month I can only say “Don’t Both With The Geek Squad Insurance” as they take your money and the service is poor. Read the online reviews and share this to as many people as possible so no one else wastes their money on the poor service they will receive if they have to use this over priced insurance....

Latest insurance review by Ransi Herage: I have broke my phone screen and wanted to get repaired under my Vodafone insurance. They asked me to pay an excess of $200 even this is my first claim after 20 months I insured my device. In the policy it has has mentioned that the excess will be charged for the second claim within 12 months, but they will find a loophole to claim the money they spent for repair. I have declined the payment and asked to returned the phone unprepared. I am strongly suggest that it is a waste of money if you want to insure your phone with Vodafone Insurance....

Barclays Insurance

Latest insurance review by Sam P: Had home insurance with them, thought I have legal cover, but it seems I have missed a webcheck box, despite proving that in the years before switching I have always bought legal cover. They refused to consider this. They however did a review, before realising that, on the basis of me having legal cover, and decided that the claim was disproportionate in value for them to take or fund, so refused even if I had had the cover!!! I went on to pay for it myself costing 20% of the value they quoted it would cost, and won on all counts, and the judge made them withdraw it due to flaws in the claim, which were missed by their reviewing solicitor, which should have identified it as an automatic win, to go in the higher track, so any money would have been recovered anyway. Complete waste of time and money and I intend to lodge complaints about them and will never use barclays insurance again. Be aware its very little to do with Barclays, who I chose thinking it was a good brand only to be palme...

LV Liverpool Victoria

Latest insurance review by Alan Wilson: Don't believe the hype or take any notice of "Which" ratings. As a former employee of respected UK insurers and Lloyds brokers I submitted a straightforward claim for vehicle damage caused by reckless driving to LV who insured the offending vehicle under a motor trade policy. I expected to be paid quickly bearing in mind the weight of evidence. Ten months later having been forced to take the claim to Court and face a barrister I won my case plus costs and interest and guess what? LV have still not paid. This insurer tried hard to avoid the claim due to the driver not being identified and when police finally traced him changed tactics and spent thousands employing solicitors and a barrister to fight me. Stay well clear! Spivs hiding behind a cloak of respectability and tradition....

Latest insurance review by Joe Grimes: Appalling service! Been with M and S for several years. Received email from M & S advising me Insurance was cancelled previous day, as policy had not been renewed! I had received nothing from insurer since previous years renewal. I was now driving an uninsured car. Rang insurer who advised me that they had sent me an email inviting renewal several weeks ago ( nothing my system! ). And they stated that this email had “ been opened”. I checked with email provider who were totally perplexed. They offered to renew policy, but requested a significant increase in the renewal premium.Needless to say I made a formal complaint, which was of course swept away for the original reasons. This took 14 days! Needless to say I renewed my insurance with another provider and have since cancelled my Household policy and transferred it to another provider....

Animal Friends

Latest insurance review by Henry: This company pull on the heart strings of pet owners, and then when it comes to the vital period, where they should be supporting you, they end up refusing to pay out based on some legal technicality which is a long stretch from responsible, ethical or "friendly". Insurance companies are there to help you through the hard times (that is why we pay them so much money), and when they refuse to support you based on a stupid contractual technicality (because they can afford bigger fancier lawyers than you), then they don't deserve your custom, or anyone elses at that! Not to mention that fact that they weren't in a rush to do anything, which is really quite important when you are watching your pets vet bill rack up by the hour!...

Latest insurance review by Jessica: I am in the middle of putting in a house insurance claim after lots of my belongings were stolen. From the first phone call where I was told that a burglar probably wouldn't have taken things I mentioned which were not of great monetary value to the loss adjuster coming out and trying to find a loop hole in the policy his questioning again suggesting I need not claim for much despite losing everything and and the inventory form I was sent with four rows for four items this insurance company has been really bad at a very sensitive time for me. The only time they responded was when I put in a complaint about how they were dealing with things. I am now completing things and will wait to see if they pay out but it is clear as they are asking for photos and receipts of everything that they do not want to pay out at all....

sheilas wheels

Latest insurance review by DianaAppleton: I read some bad reviews about Sheilas Wheels, especially around their no claims policy but decided to go with them as they were cheap. I should have listened to what the reviews had to say as I got caught out by Sheilas Wheels asking for proof of my no-claims bonus, but not telling me that it couldn't be allocated to another vehicle until I came to make a claim when they used it to dispute the settlement (look this up - it happens often). They charge admin fees for things like changing direct debit details for moving address which incurs an admin charge (about £30) which I also got hit with. Be careful - you get what you pay for!...

Lloyds Insurance

Latest insurance review by Paul H: I had a Lloyds buildings policy for 14 years. I never claimed at any point during this period. The only customer service I received each year was a renewal notice. Whilst I did not know it, nor was I notified, the price was increased considerably each year and of course this compounded over 14 years. This years quote was huge. So finally I checked the quote and unbelievably it was 320% of the highest quote on money supermarket.com and 400% of current market quote from Lloyds themselves!! Was this an error? On the contrary. I challenged this with customer complaints and eventually told 'they were happy with the calculations'. Will be taking this to the FCA. And I renewed with an alternative provider with a considerably higher level and quality of insurance cover and great customer service for a little more than a third of the Lloyds renewal quote. Lesson learned....

When challenged they came back and said hard luck you didn't have to insure with us . Can't help feeling that if a builder overcharged a pensioner 3 fold for replacing some roof tiles the consumer organisations and authorities would be all over them but when a large organization like RSA acts in a fraudulent and dishonest way regulatory bodies seem unwilling to take action . Maybe its because those organizations like the FSA are funded by the Insurance companies and are little more than a bit of token window dressing by the insurance community to appease consumers....

Admiral

Latest insurance review by J Singh: RUBBISH SERVICE FROM ADMIRAL HOME INSURANCE!!!! I thought I will share my experience with Admiral home insurance when I made a recent claim. I have a Gold policy with Admiral that covers for accidental damage to property. I recently had some leak to roof caused by 3 tiles that had lifted and broke in strong winds in recent bad weather. The water leak had subsequently damaged the wooden plank over the bathroom ceiling causing to fall down in part from the water damage (which again is covered as standard under Gold Policy). The emergency home repair team sent by Admiral to make the roof water tight came on Friday and told me they could not fix it till Monday (stating that the roof will have to continue to leak by then and when I discussed with the Admiral home emergency team they stated that any further water damage will be covered by the Insurers if they were unable to fix the leak). I had to get the roof repaired by a private roofer who made the roof water-tight on the same day. The su...

Columbus direct

Latest insurance review by A White: The point of insurance is that it's a "if the worst happens" safety net. Now, this could be the best insurance in the world but if the company simply do not respond to any e-mails (despite them saying in their correspondence that they will) then... it's really a moot point. They are incredibly hard (seeing as I still haven't had a response then I am being kind) to contact in writing when you need to query or clarify something (so you HAVE it in writing). Good luck cancelling so you make sure that the direct debit doesn't come out. Very disappointing because good customer service isn't rocket science. It's just common sense....

Latest insurance review by Danielle: Ring and shop around before you buy what you think is a good deal from Diamond Car Insurance. I've had my license for 9 years and have never made a claim, I've driven a 1.8 and went down to another car, a 1.2 with a previous insurer. Today, I've bought another car, 1.4, rang diamond to change the details over to be told it will cost me £132 for the privilege. To them, I am more prone to crash in a slightly faster car and in a car I don't have experience in. I have just literally paid £345 for them to renew my insurance a few months back. In total, £477 - Not happening. Then asked how much to cancel and got a load of old waffle about how it's easier to stay with them rather than go on comparison sites and change the insurance over. Still didn't get told how much to cancel. You can change policies online and I asked if I done it myself, through their website whether it would still cost £135, again the gentleman waffled on about comparison sites, told him that wasn't what I was asking and...

More Than

Latest insurance review by Carole: I made a claim on my pet insurance at the beginning of July. As I had heard nothing I contacted More Than in mid-August to chase this up but was told by More Than that they needed to check some details. Why I hadn't been contacted for this information I don't know, but I was told that it was all fine and that payment would be with me shortly. At the end of August, I contacted them again and was told cheque on its way. Contacted them again 6th Sept to be told they had made an error with the cheque and it hadn't been sent out, told another cheque was being raised, and would be on its way. Guess what.....18th Sept contacted More Than again to be assured cheque would be with me Friday 20th Today!! at the very latest....... Don't think I need to say anymore - still not received cheque. This is beyond a joke, what happened to " we pay out within 7 - 10 days"?...I shall not be recommending More Than or using them again....

Nationwide Insurance

Latest insurance review by Andy: Dreadful company to deal with. When rushed into hospital on medical emergency, had to cancel 3 trips. Failed to answer queries, failed to respond, lost documentation. Small claim considering 3 trips, yet they rang airlines up asking if I was a no show-even though they had documentary evidence I was an inpatient in hospital at time of flight. Nationwide blamed their underwriters UK Insurance, whilst they blamed Nationwide. If you write to Nationwide CEO your letters are automatically sent to their fobbing off department. If they handle small claims like this, how would they treat a large medical incident overseas?. I'm still waiting for claims to be dealt with-in the meantime I have taken out alternative cover for future trips with a more reputable and recommended company. Please be wary of Nationwide Travel Insurance-you get what you pay for. Poor value....

InsureandGo

Latest insurance review by Kyle: Anyone using comparison sites to find their travel insurance should be beware of InsureandGo as the chances are that you will not receive a penny should you need to make a claim. I've just received a reply from them having had all of my possessions stolen in Barcelona Airport only to find that InsureandGo will not cover any of the items because the stolen bag was at my feet rather than on my back... Don't use this company for cheap travel insurance as it's practically pointless. You won't be covered for stolen possessions unless you are holding every single one of them and you're mugged in a locked room... I'm sure there's a clause in the policy to get out of that one as well....

ee clone phone

Latest insurance review by Joe keane: Claimed on my clone phone policy and was sent a replacement S5 which was faulty. Contacted them again and they didnt have any S5s in stock after a lot of arguing they agreed to send an S6 which turned up covered in fingerprints and with an old screen protector under the new plastic film this was also faulty. They sell you this all singing and dancing policy but never make it clear that the replacement phone will be a used piece of rubbish . Avoid not worth the money...

Example page from Equity Red Star website

Latest insurance review by Michelle Kearney: After 9 years with this company i am shocked they are still legally training. They are the worst insurance i have used. I would never recommend using this Insurance Company if you wish to stay sane and keep your hair from falling out. Incompetent is an understatement. They just failed to provide any help other than making me cry and try and blame me. The man who rammed me 3 times is claiming front end damage yet i was nearly paralysed with rear end damage?? They don't even defend their customer???...

Legal and General

Latest insurance review by Tayla Goodman: Your health is at risk if you use this service- Appalling Service - Ten weeks and the property still has not been dried out by L&G. Young child in the house and left without heating and washing facilities. They have breached their contract by not providing equivalent accommodation. They forgot about and lied about it. They ignored the fact that my daughter has asthma and cancelled the drying service. I hope that they are warm in their beds tonight, whilst we sleep in the cold and the damp for another week....

Argos Insurance

Latest insurance review by Debbie: Just had my pet insurance renewal through and it has increased by 50%! It was £26 per month last year & is rising to £39 per month! I have never made a claim on the policy & I also have 2 pets insured with Argos. I have been a policy holder with them for the last 6 years and as far as I can see, there is no benefit for customer loyalty....

Virgin Media Insurance

Latest insurance review by James: I've got a mobile Samsung Galaxy Ace II from Virgin on a 24 month contract. Within two months my phone was stolen or lost. Couldn't prove it was stolen - rang Virgin to tell them. They cancelled the SIM card and gave me the number of the insurance firm. I rang them and they blocked the phone on 26th of March. They sent me insurance forms and told me if I took them to nearest store that I could fill the forms in and they would fax them back. As I needed photo ID when I got to the store the Virgin rep said no way could he do that, was very abrupt when I explained. Again, he more or less said tough s***. This was on the 6th April. As I was waiting this long for the forms to come - 20 mile journey wasted and £10 in rail fares. When I got home rang Virgin to complain - what a fiasco - call centre from India - couldn't understand a word she was saying - asked to be put through to disconnections - finally put through to someone who spoke English and told her what happened and she said she wou...

T-mobile fonesafe

Latest insurance review by Melanie: My husband recieved a letter today from fonesafe regarding changes in his policy. What policy? We have never taken out insurance about a phone. The best part is they have been taking 2 payments a month - payment 1 for £8.99 and payment 2 for £6.99. How can this happen? Customer service are no use - the only thing I can think of was in 2010 I had a T-mobile phone insisted that I did not want cover needless to say fonesafe has ripped my husband off....

Protect your bubble

Latest insurance review by Sue Comber: To say that I am disappointed with your company and your service would be an understatement. I have paid my monthly insurance for years and have an iphone6 that has 3 distinct problems : very low battery life , intermittent charging problems, and it sticks/freezes mid call. In July I sent it away for repairs (paying an excess of £50) and it came back with the same 3 problems. I was unable to be without my phone through the school holidays and waited until Sept to claim the repairs under the 6 months guaranteed warranty. in the meantime I have dropped my phone and the screen is slightly damaged. I am not asking you to repair the screen, only to repair the original 3 faults that were not fixed originally. The likelihood of a phone being repaired and subsequently dropped and then presenting with the exact same 3 problems with no other internal issues, is so unlikely as to be "beyond resonable doubt". As nothing is 100% absoloute this is the measure used in a court of law and yet "protect...

Rias

Latest insurance review by Sue cuff: Unresponsive to claims. If you are looking for an insurance company that won't make a drama out of a crisis, this is most definitely not the one for you. We insured with RIAS who brokered it to Aegeas. Our only claim in over 20 years was for a flooded kitchen floor. Aegeas farmed the claim out to Service Master who passed it to PC UK. No one in the chain will take responsibility for the repairs. A representative from Service Master lifted 4 laminate boards, said that there was asbestos under the floor and walked away. The hole that he left is still there nearly 3 weeks later despite numerous calls to Aegeas, in the main their staff are uncooperative, untruthful, unpleasant and unresponsive. This policy was sold as an elderly persons policy. Maybe they find the elderly less able to fight for themselves!...

Financial Ombudsman

Latest insurance review by John: I wrote to the Financial Ombudsman Service in October 2012 to make a complaint against my insurance company for what I thought were deliberate and unnecessary delays in settling a claim for home buildings insurance. The insurance company had admitted that they were in the wrong and that I had experienced unnecessary delays but stated that they would only pay an amount of compensation that equalled around 2 per cent of the claim, which I disputed as I had spent a lot of time fighting the case. Having looked up what you can do if an insurance company refuses to talk to you about a dispute, I asked the Financial Ombudsman (also known as FSO) to adjudicate. I’m writing the following review to show why, in my opinion, the Ombudsman offes poor service levels and why they are not a decent substitute for legal action. I found them to be over-worked and under-resourced resulting in a terrible standard of service. My score isn’t because the Ombudsman found in favour of the insurance company, but...

Budget

Latest insurance review by Catherine: I have been very disappointed with Budget insurance: they charge £30 for any change in policy details and when the highways agency claimed thousands when collided into a road side and had to make a claim, Budget provided no courtesy car unless we went through their garage. Tried to temporarily insure on another car but they do not do that, so we had to fork out for temporary car insurance. To make matters worse, they had increased my premium before I made the claim. In summary: bad policies and bad customer service from Budget caused major disruption to my life. People should avoid like the plague....

Example page from Allianz website

Latest insurance review by RobM: Deliberately sub-standard in every way. After failing to properly repair my vehicle Allianz NI proceeded to wheel out their 'expert' and together they tried to bully me into submission. I cannot remember being treated with as much condescending, patronising distain by anyone supposedly providing me with a service as I have been with Allianz NI. I hope never to do business with them again....
